Fiodrawings: “art knows no rules”
Welcome little grasshoppers to this new segment #TalentedTalesTuesdays where every Tuesday I’ll be featuring a new upcoming creator, artist, entrepreneur to share their stories, give out tips and be silly :p.
On today’s tale we have Miss Fiorella with one of the most talented pair of hands I’ve ever seen :o. Before jumping to the Q&A let’s first learn a little bit more about this cutesy grasshopper.
Fiorella was born in Venezuela and moved to the US at the age of 13.
She’s now 19 years old, a full time college student with a full time job and uses her magnificent hand skills as a side hustle, no, she’s not a message therapist, she draws, really good.
In 2015 Fiorella opened her first Instagram account where she started posting her drawings, through time her page started getting noticed by other creators like Alice Kristiansen and Victoria Secret model Jasmine Tookes. By 2019-2020 Fiorella started doing commissions and transformed her hobby into a side hustle.
Q & A
How did you started drawing?
A/ “ I started drawings probably as soon as I knew how to hold a pencil. I did take classes! with two different teachers actually. The first one was my fave, it was very open and we did all kinds of media like painting, chalk, or oils, it was such a comforting environment, plus she made the best bizcocho. The second teacher I had I didn’t like but I think it was because i was young and everyone else was older than me, I was like 12 and it was a photorealism class that my mom made me take, everyone was like 25+.”
What has been your biggest motivation?
A/ “The end result. I love seeing my work come to life, I love looking at something I made and be like: Wow, I made this, I’m so proud of myself!”
Do you critique your own work?
A/ “Yes, always, there’s always something that I wished I would’ve changed or tweaked and I take that into consideration for the next painting or drawing, It’s always a learning process!”
How do you deal with creativity blocks?
A/ “If it is a commission then it’s usually the responsibility of it that gets me back on my groove”
Have you always wanted to do what you are doing?
A/ “I think so! It’s a big part of my personality, to be an artist.
Would you go into the digital drawing realm?
A/ “Probably not, it’s not really my cup of tea, it seems really cool but I stick with the traditional.”
Which artwork has taken you the longest to finish?
A/ “My The Last Of Us piece, its 11x14 in, and it took me ages, like 2 weeks or so”
How do you deal with artistic frustration EX: unable to get something right, constantly reworking on the piece etc..
A/ “I step away, like i go do something else or i finish it the next day, its better to look at the piece with fresh eyes, its also super helpful to look at it upside down.”
TIPSY TIPS
Sharing is caring so here are some tips from Fio to all the illustrators
What advices would you give to someone who is starting?
A/ “Practice!! don’t turn something away because its hard, because thats how you’ll learn, its a slow process but it is so rewarding.”
What are some DO’s and DON’Ts when it comes to drawing
A/ “Don’t rush it, take your time, work in layers, and have fun art knows no rules!”
What are some of your drawing holy grails?
A/ “Gel and paint markers, I could own a million, they’re so easy and satisfying to use.”
How do you price your pieces?
A/ “ I started by looking at work similar to mine and pricing it similarly, and also depending on the size, and if its colored pencils, black and white, or paint.
FUNSY QUESTIONS
We are done with the serious drawing questions now we get to the juicy/silly part that we all want to know or at least me.
Have you turn down a request? If yes why?
A/ “Yes and no. when I was starting I used to turn down pictures of people smiling because I didn’t know how to draw teeth lol. and a little after that i was in my drawing nudes era, and strangers would ask me to draw theirs and i was just 16 like- no thanks i don’t wanna see that. I did draw a couple of my friends though it was a slay.”
If your art was a music genre, which genre would it be ?
A/ “Classical music, just because I do photorealism, so its a classic.”
What has been the craziest thing you have drawn?
A/ “I don’t think i’ve drawn anything too crazy, unless you count nudes.”
Which piece of work are you most proud of?
A/ “My bad bunny one!”
From 1-10 how scared are you of AI?
A/ “11”
