The Rise of the Dissociative Pout

Hello sexy grasshoppers welcome to another entry, today we will talk about the dissociative pout and its popularity among our generation of girlies.

What Is it?

The Dissociative Pout is a new pose and aesthetic that has quickly become popular among the girlies, surrounding the romanticization of lobotomy and making it chic, dead big eyes, dreamy, odd, eerie vibe, innocent, bimbo, a simple, effortless pose with expressionless lips.

The Beginning

Creepy Chan

I would say the vibe itself has been around for quite a while now, and a great example of this is Creepy Chan (Allison Harvard). Allison became trendy back in early 2000s after her appearance in America’s Next Top Model. She got the name Creepy Chan after becoming a well-known meme on 4chan. During the show she showed to have an unusual and interesting look and vibe to her and also of course a bit creepy, one of the things she mentioned in the show which also made her earn that Creepy Chan nickname was her fascination with blood and how bad she wanted to get nosebleeds as a child, her whole vibe itself its very lifeless, eerie, messy, and so effortless.

So even though we have seen this vibe happen for a while now throughout these past couple of years its popularity has increased and we not only see it on social media in fashion campaigns as well, like we have seen with Chloe Cherry in the cover of Anti-Agency Magazine. To be honest even though Creepy Chan will always be my fav dissociative pout girly I have to say that the IT girl of this generation’s dissociative pout has to be Chloe Cherry for sure.

Chloe Cherry

You probably know her by her infamous character in Euphoria, Faye. Chloe has popularize this aesthetic over this past year, her looks and vibe being very bimbo, empty, the big expressionless lips and big staring eyes, her looks have become a media’s favorite and she has been featured in PAPER Magazine, C41 Magazine, Anti- Agency Magazine, she has also been the face for brands like Urban Decay, Versace X SSense, Mac Cosmetics etc.. She has also become a fashion muse in the fashion world, she has gotten to walk in New York, London and Milan Fashion Weeks for LaQuan Smith and GCDS.

Heroin Chic & Dissociative Pout

Even though these two vibes are different, they share similarities, one of them being thinness. Both of these romanticize melancholia, delicacy, heartbreak, problems faced in girlhood and womanhood, struggling with eating disorders and substance addictions, bruises (anemia or just from being clumsy both are romanticized either way), cuts as well. I’ll do a separate entry to talk more about Heroin Chic and how it came to be, but I also wanna make another one talking about and psychoanalyzing why these types of vibes are so popular among young women, why and when did we started romanticizing our pain and struggles. Even though I like and take part in certain things of these vibes if I put myself in the position to look at it from a different perspective I of course see the unhealthy romanticization but it is sort of inevitable not to do so (romanticize it), that’s why I would like to dig in more about this topic of why we love this so much besides the fact that we relate to it, why do we keep engaging, I don’t know all of our brains need to be examined, inside every girl’s brain lives an evil creature :p

Photographers

My all time favorite, Stolen Besos, her pictures capture exactly the vibe, it shows the delicacy of women, the softness, the edginess, and the simplicity of her pictures are so captivating, lit this picture of the girl on the fridge I attached below its so simple but it looks so fever dreamy. Some of the people she has worked with has been Chloe Cherry, Addison Rae for Praying, she took backstage pictures for Sandy Liang during Fashion Week as well.

Another one of my favs for this vibe has to be Chessa Subbiondo, her pictures are more on the 90s/2000s editorial vibe, kinda like she catches an exact moment, her pictures also have that simplicity and effortless look to it, she also captures that girlhood vibe. She has taken pictures of Emma Chamberlain, Chloe Cherry, Devon Lee Carlson (mother), Anastasia Karanikolaou (Stassie Baby) , Addison Rae etc…

This is one of the aesthetics that are more to the women gaze more than the male’s. It shows chicness, messy, femininity, lucidness, and that dramatic despair, melancholic girlhood vibes, another example can be “The Virgin Suicides”, Lana Del Rey, Fiona Apple, etc... This aesthetic its so fashionable too, it brings back the 90s, 2000s,2010s nostalgia. As I said before we have seen this vibe for quite a while now and one of the pioneer social medias for this vibe I wanna say it’s Tumblr, especially a few years ago on the 2010s, now obviously the vibe has migrated to other social medias like Instagram and Tik Tok.

I think the dissociative pout is here to stay, it’s one of those aesthetics that will never be out of style but evolve through time and it will maintain its OG roots.

I’m personally a big fan of this vibe #guilty i love it!, what do you guys think, do you like it?, do you think it’ll be out of style at some point or will it change? what are some other creators that you know that have this vibe? Tell me your thoughts on the comments below :D I hope you liked this entry :P-mariahcareysblogxoxox
